(BLOOMINGTON) – Jalen Clark scored two late goals as Terre Haute South rallied to oust Bedford North Lawrence 2-1 in the first round of the Class 3A IHSAA sectional on Tuesday night.
Clark broke through for two goals in a 90-second span as the Braves advanced to the semifinal to face Terre Haute North on Wednesday.
The Stars took a 1-0 lead with 14:14 left in the first half as Seth Sherfick booted home a rebound after South goalie Kade Kline made a save but couldn’t control it.
“We pushed Seth up in middle and had good looks,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “We finally buried one and that gave us a huge boost. We were playing really well, moving it as well as we did all season. We came out and attacked for once.”
South was quiet until Clark finally found the net with the equalizer with 6:15 left. He then added the go-ahead goal with 4:45 remaining.
“It was a tough one,” Jackson said. “We were kind of scrambling, our communication started to lapse, and they broke us a little bit. We weren’t able to stop it.”
The Stars finished with an 8-7-2 record.
“We had some really good times, and other times we had issues,” Jackson said. “That comes with a younger team and inexperience. At the end we were playing some of best soccer we could play.
“I think we learned a lot. When we look to the future we have a lot of guys that can play different places. I’m proud of the seniors and how we ended. We need to build on it and see what next year can bring us.”
