(ROCKVILLE) – Pam Ferguson, Assistant Warden of Reentry at the Rockville Correctional Facility is pleased to announce the promotion of Elizabeth Luna-Garcia to Correctional Caseworker
Luna-Garcia joined RCF as a Correctional Officer in November 2016, and has proven herself to be a self-starter who fellow staff and offenders can rely on. Elizabeth has been part of a select group of staff working with the Rockville Diversion Unit (RDU). The RDU provides a “what works” approach to alternative behavioral choices for those offenders requiring redirection. Because of her excellent work ethic, and service in the RDU Elizabeth was awarded RCF Employee of the Month honors in January 2019. A coworker noted at that time, “Officer Luna-Garcia has been tested, and pushed to her limits, but she pushed past her emotional limits remaining professional even in the hardest of times.”
Co-located with the RDU is the RCF Offender Intake Unit where all adult female offenders are initially processed into the Indiana Department of Correction. Working with this diverse group of offenders who may be experiencing their first incarceration after trial can be particularly challenging. Elizabeth speaks fluent Spanish which is an invaluable asset when encountering offenders who speak little or no English. Through her translation skills Elizabeth has helped her coworkers impart information to this group of offenders while helping put those offenders at ease during their transitions.
In her new role of Correctional Caseworker Lunda-Garcia will continue working with the Intake Unit where she will be assisting in the coordination of offender in processing, physical and mental diagnostic testing, court appearances subsequent to arrival at RCF, and preparing these offenders in their transitions into general population.
