(BEDFORD) – The Bedford Parks Department has been working on winterizing their facilities throughout the parks system. They are also making some renovations at the club house.
New carpet tile has been installed at the club house which replaces the aging carpet.
The golf course has been looking at various golf carts since the lease on the ones they have will be coming up for renewal. They will be making recommendations to the board soon.
The Fall Break Day held on October 17th was a success. This was an event for children who got to enjoy a free meal, games, a magic show and balloon animals, as well as music. Bedford Federal Savings and Loan, Bedford Body & Paint, Clair Roub, Girl Scouts, Bedford Police Department and Lawrence County D.A.R.E. officers, McIntyre Brothers, Bedford Fire Department, and Lawrence County 4-H all helped sponsor the event.
The White River Humane Society Santa Paws event will be held on December 2nd and 3rd at Wilson Park Shelter House from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost will be $12 to have your pet photographed with Santa.
The Parks Department Santa House at Otis Park will be held December 12-14 starting at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $2 per person for ages 6 and above, ages 5 and under are free.
Letters from Santa forms are now available at the Bedford Parks Department Office, on the Bedford Parks Department website, and at local businesses. All forms must be submitted by December 2nd at 11:30 a.m. Steve Warren is sponsoring this program.
Pound exercise classes will be each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Concourse. The instructor is Susan Sokeland. The class fee is $5 a session or $35 for an eight-week course.
A Dog Training Class taught by Mary Hall will start on January 20th. The fee is $75 for the four week class.
Men’s basketball has a total of 19 teams enrolled this year and games will be held at three locations in North Lawrence Community Schools gymnasiums.
Volleyball leagues will have a total of 16 teams this year playing at two locations using North Lawrence School facilities.
The second scoreboard has been installed at Murray Park thanks to Steve and Charletta Turner from TCI Mass Excavation and Mining. The Bedford Softball Association purchased a third scoreboard which will be installed soon on Field 3.
At the next meeting, Taylor Grater will be providing a report on revenues and update the Bedford Parks Board on how the year 2019 ended.
