(VIGO CO.) – David Hoffa, a teacher and coach at Honey Creek Middle School, is dead after a car crash on Sunday.
The accident happened at the intersection of State Road 63 and Durkees Ferry Road in northern Vigo County just before Noon.
According to Sheriff John Plasse, the driver of a red Chevrolet truck was traveling across the highway and failed to slow down. That truck collided with a white Nissan pickup driven by Hoffa. The Nissan flipped several times and Hoffa was ejected from the vehicle. Hoffa was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the other truck was not injured during the incident.
Honey Creek Athletics Director Holly Hyland posted about Hoffa’s death on Facebook.
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness to announce the passing of Mr. Dave Hoffa, who was killed in a car accident today. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Hoffa family. Counselors will be available at Honey Creek Middle School on Tuesday, January 21st. Athletes are encouraged to wear their Cross Country/Track & Field shirts on Tuesday in honor of Coach Hoffa💙“
Sheriff Plasse says the accident remains under investigation.
