(UNDATED) – Indiana Department of Labor Commissioner, Rick J. Ruble, recognized nine Hoosier companies and eight individuals for exemplary workplace safety practices and advocacy during the annual Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards luncheon in Indianapolis.
Honored locally was Bruce Edwards, Facilities Coordinator at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, with the Everyday Safety Hero Award.
Held at the Indiana Convention Center, the Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards Luncheon was part of the 2020 Indiana Safety and Health Conference. The annual event is hosted by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers in partnership with the Indiana Department of Labor.
“These Hoosier organizations and individuals, recognized today, are workplace safety and health role models for Indiana businesses,” said Rick J. Ruble, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor. “Their exemplary efforts in protecting themselves, their teams and Indiana’s workers altogether deserves nothing less than total gratitude and appreciation.”
Indiana companies were recognized in the following categories: Education and Outreach, Innovations, Partnerships, and Rising Star. The 2020 Governor’s Workplace Safety Award recipients are:

- Leaders Staffing LLC, Ft. Wayne, Ind. – Education & Outreach, Internal

- Gribbins Insulation, Evansville, Ind. – Innovations
- Sustainable Sourcing, LLC, Clinton, Ind. – Partnerships
- Indiana Packers Corporation, Delphi, Ind. – Rising Star
- Meritor, Plainfield, Ind.– Rising Star
- ORG CHEM Group, Troy, Ind. – Rising Star
“There is no more valuable asset to companies than their workforce. We applaud these organizations and leaders for not only recognizing that a safe workplace is paramount, but going above and beyond to ensure that is their culture,” stated Kevin Brinegar, president of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
The Everyday Safety Hero Award recognized those Hoosiers who have championed workplace safety and health excellence in their respective workplaces. Individuals, who may not be safety and health professionals, were nominated by their peers or organizations. Winners were selected based on a narrative provided by their respective nominators.

The annual Governor’s Workplace Safety Awards are a result of a partnership among government, business, and safety leaders including the Indiana Department of Labor on behalf of Gov. Eric J. Holcomb, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
