(JACKSON/BARTHOLOMEW CO.) – A number of traffic changes and switches are scheduled to begin Monday, March 23rd, weather permitting, on I-65 between Seymour and Columbus. INDOT contractor E&B Paving Inc. is continuing work on the $143 million reconstruction project and added travel lanes project that began in the Spring of 2018.
Starting Monday, the far left lane of I-65 NB will close between MM 60 and MM 64, south of State Road 58/Walesboro. Crews will saw and seal concrete joints under the closure. In addition, the 55 mph speed restriction has returned to this section of northbound I-65.
On Thursday night (March 26), northbound traffic will be shifted via temporary crossover to the newly-constructed southbound lanes of I-65 between MM 50 and MM 53.6, just north of Seymour. Crews will construct new northbound travel lanes while traffic is shifted.
Nightly lane closures are also planned to begin Thursday on I-65 NB between MM 61.2 and MM 64. Traffic will be restricted to one lane each weeknight for five nights (through Wednesday, March 25, weather permitting) from approximately 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The contractor will continue joint sawing and sealing work during the additional lane closures.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free through the entire work zone. Drivers should adhere to the 55 mph speed restriction and trucks should continue to use the left lane for travel. The project is expected to be complete in late summer 2020. All work is weather dependent.
