(BLOOMINGTON) – Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus is relocating its automotive technology training program from Hoosier Hills Career Center to the Monroe County Airport, with classes starting in late August. The move is taking place in order to provide space for Ivy Tech to accept more students into the growing job training program.
“The relocation of Ivy Tech’s automotive program to the Monroe County Airport provides much-needed space and functional capabilities, as the program already trains 41 students and is set to expand quite quickly once we make this move,” said Jon Hineman, Ivy Tech Bloomington dean of the school of advanced manufacturing, engineering, and applied science.
“The Monroe County Airport is excited to partner with Ivy Tech Community College by offering an excellent location and upgraded facility for their automotive program,” said Carlos Laverty, director of the Monroe County Airport. “We happily welcome Ivy Tech students to the Airport and we look forward to working with the College long into the future.”
Hineman says the move will also enable Ivy Tech to offer additional automotive training credentials and to run a flexible schedule of courses that take place in the morning, afternoon, and evening hours in order to accommodate student schedules.
“A few local auto dealerships have expressed interest in working with Ivy Tech to expand the auto program because they are in need of skilled technicians,” said Hineman. “Cars and trucks are becoming digitally sophisticated and skilled techs are in high-demand to service and maintain them.”
If eligible, students can earn a tuition-free Ivy Tech automotive technology certification through Next Level Jobs Indiana, paid for by the Workforce Ready Grant.
