(BLOOMINGTON) – On the first day of summer 2020 classes, Indiana University Bloomington reported a record high enrollment of 12,604 students, a 22 percent increase from summer 2019.
Overall, 33,201 students enrolled in online courses offered through IU’s campuses across the state, nearly 6 percent more than last summer when 31,443 students were enrolled in both remote learning and in-person classes.
The figures represent the strength of the university’s highly successful IU Online program, which is taught and was developed by IU’s world-class faculty. It also reflects the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic on the part of students who had to adjust their summer plans and opted for virtual learning.
“IU’s summer enrollment figures show our prioritization of student success even as we confront the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic,” said John Applegate, executive vice president for university academic affairs. “Each year we have seen continued interest in the robust offering of degree programs and high-quality courses offered through our IU Online program, and we are grateful that we are able to extend such an excellent IU education to our students in a remote learning environment.”
From across IU’s seven campuses, the university saw a total increase in enrollment:
