Matricia A. Butler, 90, of Oolitic, passed away at 1:03 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born August 27, 1929, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Cecil John and Estus P. (Wells) Keithley. She married Maxwell E. Butler on December 25, 1949, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2002.
She retired from the North Lawrence School System in 1991, having taught in Crete, IL and North Lawrence (Needmore Elementary) for twenty-eight years. During her years of teaching, she was a member of NLEA, ISTA, and a life member of NEA. She was a member of the Oolitic Pentecost Church.
Survivors include two children, Maxwell Steven Butler and Melodee Charlesworth, both of Oolitic; a sister, Mary Ellen Sowders, and husband, Heber Jr.; a step-brother, William Bush, Jr., of Louisville, KY.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her step-dad, William Bush; a step-brother, Robert Bush; three step-sisters, Rosemary
Jones, Deloris Riley, and Peggy Rocco.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25th in the Bennett Cemetery with Bro. Marty Speer officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25th at the Day & Carter
Mortuary. The family asks that attendees please wear a face mask.
