(MITCHELL) – Jeff McKnight, of Mitchell, has filed as an Independent Candidate in Lawrence County Commissioner District 2 Race.
According to the Voter Registration Office, all 306 signatures and paperwork required to run as an Independent Candidate were turned in.
Jeff McKnight will be challenging Republican Dustin Gabbart, the incumbent Lawrence County Commissioner District 2, in the November elect
Jeff McKnight left the following statement, ” I am a lifelong resident of Lawrence County, a semi-retired farmer, and business owner.
My wife is Paula Tolbert McKnight. We have two children: son Andy McKnight and his wife Liz; and daughter Laurin and husband Josh Perry. We also have six grandchildren.
I want to serve as Lawrence County Commissioner of the 2 nd District because I feel my familiarity with machinery and business matters could be a real asset to the county government.
I will be able to look at the issues we face in the coming year with a different perspective and a fresh set of eyes.
With less revenue expected, changes will need to be made. My guiding principle will be to limit government growth and its impact on our daily lives while still maintaining the necessary functions of the county government.
In closing, I have the knowledge, the time, and the desire to be your Lawrence County Commissioner,”said McKnight.
Individuals wanting to run as an Independent have until June 30, 2020, at Noon to turn in the required signatures. The candidate will then have until July 15, 2020, to turn in the required candidate forms.
The Democrat Party has until June 30, 2020, at Noon to have a caucus to name a candidate against any race that Democrats did not have a candidate during the Primary Election.
