(INDIANAPOLIS) – A Terre Haute man is dead after he was hit by a car while working construction along Interstate 65 near Indianapolis.
The accident happened just after midnight Saturday morning.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after midnight in response to reports of a man lying on the road unconscious after a multiple vehicle crash near the 111.6 mile marker of I-65.
Police say bystanders performed CPR on 23-year-old David Vasquez Jr., a construction worker from Terre Haute. But he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Indiana State Police, 24-year-old Cheyenne Prass, of Indianapolis, failed to merge into the left lane and instead swerved to the right, hitting Vasquez in the construction zone.
Prass then spun into the left lane where she collided with a construction truck and semi.
Prass was arrested and is facing charges for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
No other injuries were reported.
