(SEYMOUR) – Milestone Contractors is continuing work on the pavement reconstruction contract that began in late April along U.S. 50 in Seymour. Traffic shifts took place between Agrico Lane and Steven’s Way earlier this week.
More shifts are planned this coming week, in addition to ramp closures and activation of temporary traffic signals at the I-65 interchange.
U.S. 50 from Agrico Lane to Sandy Creek Drive
On Tuesday, both lanes of eastbound U.S. 50 were moved to the outside lane and shoulder while the inside lane is rebuilt. Westbound traffic will be moved to the same configuration (outside lane and shoulder) next week. Reconstruction of both inside lanes is expected to be complete by early December to move traffic into its winter configuration.
U.S. 50 from Sandy Creek Drive to Steven’s Way
Crews began rebuilding the outside shoulder of westbound U.S. 50 earlier this week. Traffic was moved to the temporary pavement and the existing inside lane from Steven’s Way to just east of I-65 for this work to occur. On Monday (Aug. 10), westbound traffic will move to the temporary pavement from Steven’s Way to Sandy Creek Dr. Once shoulder work is complete, all traffic (eastbound and westbound) will utilize the westbound side of U.S. 50 from Sandy Creek Dr. to U.S. 31. The new configuration is expected to be in place later this month.
I-65 Ramps and Temporary Signals
Also starting Monday (Aug. 10), access will change for four ramps at the I-65/U.S. 50 interchange (Exit 50). All ramp movements will remain open, but traffic will utilize temporary ramps and traffic signals.

U.S. 50 bridges over Sandy Creek
Traffic remains shifted to the far right lanes and shoulder at the twin bridges over Sandy Creek as widening work continues. When complete, the bridges will accommodate a center turn lane and pedestrian path on the north side of U.S. 50.
Intersection improvements at U.S. 31 and bridge painting are also included in the $15 million contract. Two travel lanes in each direction are expected to be maintained for the duration of the project. The intermediate contract completion date is October 31, 2021, with activity continuing through June 2022.
Motorists are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and drive distraction-free through all work zones. All work is weather dependent.
