GALENA – Floyd Central dominated possession of the ball and generated the offense while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 5-0 during boys high school soccer action on Saturday.
The Highlanders limited the Stars (1-2, 0-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) to only two shots on goal, and their constant offensive pressure finally took a toll. BNL had scored 10 times in the first two games of the season.
“They sent numbers forward to press us and wore us down,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “We had opportunities to counter, but they dominated play and wore us down in the second half.”
Floyd broke through at 19:52 of the first half with a goal by Brock Kennedy. Dakota Hart made it 2-0 at 17:23 (off a Kennedy pass), and Tyler Werner ended the half with a goal at 2:58.
Ivan Villegas scored twice after intermission, connecting at 37:55 and 1:30.
Despite the 12-2 difference in shots, Jackson was happy with the effort.
“From the first two games, we had a lot more energy and sustained it for 80 minutes,” he said. “I was really happy with that, it was much better. We just need to find a way to break through on the final third (of the field) against better teams.”
BNL will host Bloomington South on Tuesday.
