(UNDATED) – The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission is beginning the process of selecting a new Superior Court judge.
A vacancy on the Lake Superior Court will occur on January 1, 2021. Judge Clarence Murray will retire from Lake Superior Court, Criminal Division, Room 2.Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter, who chairs the Commission, announced applications for the position are now available online and must be submitted through the Indiana Courts Portal by noon (Central) on Monday, September 21, 2020.
The list of applicants will be made available after the deadline.
The Commission was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1973. According to Indiana law IC 33-33-45-27 to 33-33-45-42, the Commission is required to submit to the Governor “the three most highly qualified candidates from among all those eligible” for appointment when a vacancy arises.
The Commission expects to meet in October in Crown Point to interview the applicants.
