(ST. JOSEPH CO.) – The Indiana State Police has been requested to investigate the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail.
The Indiana State Police were contacted Wednesday morning after jail staff found the inmate unresponsive in the medical isolation unit at the jail.
The inmate, 37-year-old Jason Peters, of South Bend, was found unresponsive in the medical isolation unit at approximately 8:40 a.m. J
ail staff and medical staff immediately began life-saving efforts until emergency medical technicians arrived. Peters was pronounced deceased at approximately 9:09 a.m.
Peters was in the cell alone.
An autopsy, to include toxicology, will be performed on Peters in Ft. Wayne, IN on September 3, 2020.
