JASPER – Bedford North Lawrence avoided the potential pitfalls of a unfamiliar course to conquer Jasper during girls high school golf action on Tuesday.
The Stars, playing without senior Ashley Chase, fired a team total of 178 to clip the Wildcats by four shots on the back nine of Buffalo Trace Country Club.
“It was a good win,” BNL coach Aaron Sanders said. “We faced a lot of adversity, with Ashley not making the trip (to complete a school project), the long trip down there and playing a good Jasper team on that quirky back nine. We knew it wouldn’t be easy.
“None of our girls had seen that back nine. So we feel pretty fortunate to come out of there with a win.”
Addyson Bailey paced the Stars with a 41 that included a birdie on the 14th hole. Olivia Sanders had birdies on the 10th and 18th holes en route to a 42, and Kennedy Blair posted a 47. Chloe McFaddin capped the scoring with 48,
“I really liked the way Olivia set the tone early with an aggressive drive to set up a two-putt birdie,” Sanders said. “And Kennedy kept a real clean card to give us a score when we really needed it.“
Jasper’s Elizabeth Ackerman was the medalist with 40.
BNL will host Brownstown on Thursday at Otis Park.
