EASTERN HEIGHTS – Bedford North Lawrence finished second in a four-team race during boys high school cross country action on Tuesday at Eastern Greene.
The Thunderbirds won the quad event with 44 points, while BNL (which did not run at full strength) totaled 51. Orleans was third with 56 while Mitchell scored 60 points.
BNL’s Cole Baker finished second overall, crossing the line in 18:17. Isaac Williams was sixth in 18:42, and Cameron Haste was seventh in 19:02. Eastern’ s Dustin Lester won the event in 17:48.
“This was a good test for us on a very challenging course,” BNL coach Jonathan Calhoun said. “This is the hardest course of the year. Overall this race tested everyone mentally and physically.
“We succeeded in some aspects, but there are many aspects we have to get better as the postseason is looming ahead of us. We haven’t found our stride, but we’re showing glimpses of sunshine of breakthroughs to happen.”
In the girls race, BNL did not have enough runners for a team score (with only four competitors), but Grace Tanksley was the individual winner in 21:26.
The Stars will host the annual Ted Fox Invitational on Saturday.
