SEYMOUR – Katherine West scored a goal and dished out three assists as Bedford North Lawrence conquered Trinity Lutheran 5-2 during girls high school soccer action on Thursday.
Makena Moore converted two goals as the Stars improved to 4-9-1.
Heidi Dufore got the Stars started with a goal at 33:14 of the first half. Emily Zhang scored off a West pass at 26:04.
The Cougars answered twice in a five-minute span to draw even, but Moore countered with a crucial goal (off another West assist) with only 41 seconds left in the half, creating momentum for the second stanza.
“We came out strong to a two-goal lead and were controlling the game, but we lost a little focus and let them back in it,” BNL coach D.J. West said. “Makena’s goal was huge, and I might add one of the prettiest goals all year.
“We got the ball out wide to Dufore, who crossed it to Katherine. She played it back to Makena’s right foot at the top of the box, and she blasted it into the upper right corner.”
Moore struck again with 30:48 left visa West’s third assist, and that duo turned the combination around as West tallied off a Moore pass with 29:28 remaining.
“We refocused at halftime and kept the pressure on them,” West said. “I’m proud of them coming back strong after the disappointment and fortunate tie against Salem.”
BNL will host North Harrison for the regular-season finale on Oct. 3.
