BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence advanced to the sectional championship match with a 5-0 sweep of Edgewood during boys high school tennis action in the semifinal at Bloomington South on Wednesday.
The Stars (14-8) will face South in the final on Thursday at 5 p.m.
BNL, which also decked the Mustangs by a similar score during the consolation round of the Edgewood tournament earlier this season, dominated the singles, dropping only 7 games in the three matches.
Adam Tlustek rolled Josiah Hinson 6-1, 6-1 at No.1, Steven Graham smashed Chris Bitner 6-0, 6-0 at No.2, and Graham Turner tripped Gavin Norris 6-3, 6-2 at No.3.
In doubles, Cameron Gratzer and Konley Woodward fought through a first-set tiebreaker to conquer Lincoln Hammond and Zeke Weisner 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No.1. Caleb Jones and Nate Pemberton thumped Hayden Wilson and Quinn Norris 6-1, 6-1 at No.2.
“When it’s windy, it’s a little harder to play,” BNL coach Donnie Thomas said. “Caleb and Nate played the best. They were off the court in less than an hour. Note made good, deep returns and Caleb was really active, charging serves and getting to the net.
“Adam and Steven were very consistent, keeping the ball in play. We served pretty well.”
The Panthers topped the Stars 5-0 during the regular-season meeting on Aug. 18.
