(MITCHELL) – Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in Lawrence County, Mitchell Community Schools will continue a hybrid e-Learning schedule with some changes.
“MCS was notified by the Lawrence County Health Department that our county has moved into a level ‘orange’ due to the rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases,” Superintendent Brent Comer said. “Staff at these two buildings will ensure students understand their group assignment over the next two days of school. At this time, there will be no change to elementary attendance. Elementary students will continue to attend five days a week.
Mitchell Junior High and High School students began the school year with a hybrid schedule to cut down on the number of students in buildings.
Students attended on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday and participated in e-Learn the other three days.
On Monday, October 26th, students who attended on Monday and Wednesday will now attend school on Mondays and Thursdays.
Students who attended on Tuesday and Thursday students will now attend school on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Wednesdays will remain e-Learning days for all upper level students.
“Your school corporation will continue to closely monitor this situation and stay in communication with both county and state health departments,’ Superintendent Comer added. “MCS will continue to make any alterations necessary to best ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.”
