GALENA – Floyd Central swept to wins over Bedford North Lawrence during the season-opening meets on Saturday.
The Highlanders won the boys meet 119-64, and Floyd Central splashed to a 119-66 decision in the girls meet.
BNL’s Emma Gabhart was a double winner in the girls meet, taking the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. She also teamed with Kaitlyn Hackney, Ursula Patton and Shelby Slaughter to claim the 200 medley relay.
In the boys meet, Cole Baker won the 50 freestyle, John Allen touched first in the 100 free, and that pair combined with Alexander Swenson and Garrett Henson to take the 400 free relay.
“We had very nice performances today and we are ahead of the curve right now,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “We are heading into a run of meets over the next few weeks and training is going to gradually increase in intensity.
“Both teams are really surprising me with times that aren’t far off lifetime bests. However, as we learned today against a tough Floyd team, we have a whole lot of work to do if we want to take advantage of our conference and sectional opportunities.”
The Stars will host Bloomington North on Thursday.
