(VINCENNES) – Officials announced the Annual New Year’s Eve Watermelon Drop in Vincennes is canceled this year.
Last year there was music, food, and a fireworks display on the riverfront.
Event chair Steven Gott says the Watermelon Drop is among a long list of events canceled this year due to the spread of COVID-19. Gott says it would be hard to properly social distance in tents especially if the weather is frigid.
“Considering that last year’s Watermelon Drop celebrated the arrival of 2020, perhaps it’s for the best that we skip the 13th Annual Drop,” Gott said.
