(BEDFORD) – The Bedford Parks board approved to advertise the bids for the Red Brick Restoration project. City Attorney Greg Pittman told the board members the insurance company has approved the specifications for the repair of the project.
The clean-up of the Red Brick is now complete. During that process additional damage was discovered. This discover caused a delay with the completion due to awaiting an insurance appraisal.
A fire damaged the kitchen area of the building earlier this year.
Park Director Jimmy Jones announced that park employee Autumn Ray has been hired as the Assistant Maintenance Director.
In other business:
- Approved the incumbrances for 2020 for the next year budget in 2021
- Approved the donated labor and free memberships for 2021
- Approved the schedule for donated labor for 2021
- Approved the tentative schedule for 2021 Golf Tournaments
- Approved the budget for Milwaukee Depot Rentals for 2021 a fee of $250 is charged for that facility.
Jimmy Jones, Bedford Parks Director, reported project updates to the board. The maintenance building at Otis Park has been completed. Gravel roads to various areas of Otis Park are being created to prevent damage to the grass, and keep mud off of Leatherwood Road.
The playground equipment that was purchased this year has been installed except at Thornton Park. The playground equipment for that location should be installed sometime next week.
The Bedford Parks Department letters to Santa received over 300 requests. Santa and his sleigh will be at the Milwaukee Depot on Friday and Saturday. This event will be a drive thru event this year due to Covid-19.

Otis Parks has increased its revenue for the year by approximately $8,000. Winter Hours for Otis Park are 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The shop at Otis is stocked, to include gift certificates for purchase.
Jo Underwood asked the board about replacing trees that are cut down in the park system. This could be used as an Arbor Day event. Some trees have been removed because they died or were creating a safety hazard.
