Lessie Rae Smith, 90, of Bedford, passed away Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, in Bloomington.
She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Armilda, West Virginia to Mable (Moses) and Virgil Mills. She married Robert L. Napier and he preceded her in death. She then married James Ray Smith and he survives.
Lessie graduated from Wayne High School, in Wayne, West Virginia, was Deputy Assessor of Wayne County, West Virginia and attended First Baptist Church of Bedford.
Surviving to cherish Lessie’s memory are her husband, James of Bedford; son, Nickie Lee (Donna) Napier of Bedford; granddaughter, DeAndrea Napier Sargent of Hope, Indiana; great grandchildren, Aunaka Wasil, Simeon Wasil and Jackson Sargent; grandson, Christopher (Amy) Napier of Bedford; great grandchildren, Landon and Gracie Hopkins; daughter, Rosemary (Gregory) Stanley of Bedford; grandson, Jesse (Marie) Stanley of Bedford; great grandson, Ethan Stanley; grandson, Jay (Kelli) Stanley of Manhattan, Montana; great grandchildren, Calvin, Amos, Bernadette, Elwood, Delilah and Fletcher Stanley; and granddaughter Jade Stanley of Bedford; brother, Kenneth James Mills of Wayne, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Lessie was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert L. Napier; and brother, Donald Wilson Mills of Wayne, West Virginia.
A graveside service for Lessie will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at Cresthaven Memory Gardens with Keith Wiebe, Jr. officiating.
