National Forest Seeks Information on Orange and Crawford County Areas of Interest

(UNDATED) – The Hoosier National Forest seeks information from the public about an area south of Paoli, Indiana, in Orange and Crawford counties (see map).

Tentatively referred to as the Buffalo Springs Area of Interest, the U.S.D.A. Forest Service invites landowners, Forest neighbors, and other stakeholders to share their knowledge of the cultural and natural history of the area with our staff.  Particular interest are any concerns the public has about the current condition of the forest in that area.

As stewards of the land, foresters are entrusted by the American people to take a holistic look at forest ecosystems and make informed decisions about the future direction of those ecosystems and any needed management actions to improve conditions.  This request for public feedback is an important part of that process.

Scientific staff with the Forest are offering a brief overview of the known current conditions in both newsletter and video formats, which are available on the Forest website for the public to view at their convenience.

In lieu of a public meeting during the current pandemic, this method of engagement is intended to keep residents and staff safe while encouraging maximum public participation.

Those interested in learning more about the history, recreation, fish, wildlife, water, and other natural resources can find the Buffalo Springs Newsletter at https://go.usa.gov/xAn24

The videos will offer additional details and visuals and are expected to be available in February.

This webpage also provides information on how the public can share their knowledge and concerns with the Forest Service, including via email.  The public may also share information by fax to 812-279-3423, or mail to Attn:  Public Affairs, Hoosier National Forest, 811 Constitution Ave., Bedford, IN 47562.  For further information please contact the Forest toll-free at 866-302-4173.
