INDIANAPOLIS – On February 24, 2021, Indiana Department of Insurance Commissioner Stephen W. Robertson issued Bulletin 257 directing health care providers electing to be qualified under Indiana’s Medical Malpractice Act (IC 34-18-1-1 et seq.), and to insurers that provide coverage to those health care providers, of the surcharge rates for qualification under the Act.
The surcharge rates are effective for coverage beginning July 1, 2021. For physicians, the overall effective surcharge will decrease by 1.65% from the current rates. The surcharge for qualification of hospitals is an overall 2.1% decrease from the current effective rates.
