Congratulations to Yena Park, 6th grader at University Elementary School, and Yuxuan Xun, 8th grader at Jackson Creek Middle School for winning their school spelling bee.
Now, they will participate in the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee sponsored by The IU Media School on Saturday, March 5th. Due to the pandemic, students will use the Scripps Online Testing Platform to complete the spelling/vocabulary test. The students will be monitored by a teacher while taking the test, and are allowed 30 minutes any time from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 5th to complete the test.
The regional champion also receives the Samuel Louis Sugarman Award, a U.S. Mint proof set, and a one-year subscription to Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online, the bee’s official dictionary.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee will be on July 8th in Orlando, Florida, at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. The final rounds, including 10 to 12 spellers, will be offered in-person and will follow the preliminary, quarter-final, and semi-final rounds of the bee.
