BARTHOLOMEW CO. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Morphey Construction is completing signal work at two locations along U.S. 31 and S.R. 11 in Bartholomew County.
The work is part of a $575,000 signal modernization contract that was awarded last year.
Underground boring began in January at U.S. 31 and Lowell Road, and is currently in progress at S.R. 11 and Southern Crossing (C.R. 450 S.). Traffic impacts should be minimal, but lane closures and flagging will be necessary during paving operations next month and signal installation later this spring.
Once the projects are complete, traffic signals will be operational at both locations. Currently, the intersection of U.S. 31 and Lowell Road features at two-way stop (cross-traffic on U.S. 31 does not stop) and S.R. 11 and Southern Crossing features a four-way stop. Signals will help improve safety and reduce queueing and congestion in these areas.
Motorists are reminded to slow down, use extra caution, and drive distraction-free in and near work zones. Both projects are expected to be complete by mid-June.
