Thomas Ray Smith, 71, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at his home.
Born August 29, 1949, in Kokomo, he was the son of Gayle F. and Margaret Pauline “Pauline” (Isom) Smith. He married Pamela Jean Montgomery November 29, 1996.
Tom was a 1967 graduate of Western High School. He retired from General Motors and had also been employed by Lanny Williams in security. Tom was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.
He enjoyed watching Formula One Racing, NASCAR, Indiana Pacers, and IU basketball. Tom enjoyed attending concerts at the Mitchell Opera House.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela J. Smith of Mitchell; brother-in-law, Roger Montgomery of Huron; nieces and nephews, Rachel Montgomery, Amber Montgomery, Jon (Alisha) Montgomery, Molly (Tanner) McConaughy, Sam Montgomery, and Emily Montgomery; five great-nieces and nephews; cousins, Eric Stillson of North Carolina, Kyle Stillson of North Carolina, and Beverly Johns and special friend, Dr. Darren Hamilton of Mitchell
His parents and great nephew preceded him in death.
Cremation was chosen with graveside service at a later date in Mitchell Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family would like to extend appreciation to Southern Care Hospice, Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services, and Indiana University Health Oncology.
