HURON – A Loogootee woman was arrested Tuesday on a warrant on charges of domestic battery on a minor, neglect of a dependent, and strangulation.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested 38-year-old Julie Lents.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on March 19th a woman reported she saw Lents grab her 13-year-old son and beat him in the 1690 block of Beaver Creek Road at the caller’s home.
The caller was asked to come to the station to make a statement, but fail to arrived and would not return police phone calls.
The Loogootee Police Chief called the station and requested to speak to an officer about the same report involving Lents and her son. The Chief reported he had received a call from the boy’s father reporting the same incident.
The father reported he and Julie engaged in a dispute at the home. The father said the boy stepped between the two of them and that is when Lents allegedly grabbed the boy by the throat and pushed him against a vehicle.
The Chief took photos of the boy’s injuries which included scratches and redness around his throat.
Officers contacted the Department of Child Services.
The information was sent to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Lents’ arrest.
