Joe Speer, 68, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021, at his residence.
Joe was born April 6, 1953, in Logansport, IN, to Edward Speer and Della Lorraine (Levi) Hoopingarner- Speer. He married Karen S. Lake in 1974 and they were married for 47 years. Joe attended Bedford High School and was a mill worker, retiring from Indiana Limestone after 30 years, and a former employee of Essex. He loved walking and going to dirt track races and was at the Brownstown Speedway every Saturday for 47 years. He loved being with his
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving to cherish Joe’s memory are his wife, Karen; children, Jennifer (Jody) East, Joey Speer, Kayla (Arron) Barger, all of Bedford and Rebecca Chase of Bloomington; grandchildren, Alyssa (Tyler) Davis, Makenzie (Tyler) Warner, Hannah Chase, Jaden, and Hailee East, Parker, Jackson and Paisley Speer and Bentley and Macy Barger, all of Bedford; three great-grandchildren, Dayson, Daxton and Dawson Davis and two more on the way; and siblings, Jim
Hoopingarner of Indianapolis and Sharon (Darlene) Francis of Bedford.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents; and siblings, Della Hilderbrand, Bob Hoopingarner,
Charles Hoopingarner and Carolyn Speer, in infancy.
Funeral services for Joe will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford with Pastor T.J. Skiles officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service, also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
