WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University trustees on Friday (June 11) approved the tuition and fee schedules for the 2022 and 2023 fiscal years and the university’s operating budget for the 2022 fiscal year.
Tuition will remain frozen on Purdue’s main campus for the ninth and 10th consecutive years, keeping base undergraduate tuition and fees for Indiana residents under $10,000 per year. The total cost of attending Purdue continues to be less today than in 2012, with tuition held flat and lower room and board rates. Consequently, the university continues to receive more applications annually than ever before. For the second year in a row, Purdue expects to welcome its largest-ever incoming class for the fall of 2021.
For 2022-23, new or increased fees for four health-related graduate programs will be used to support clinical instruction needs and curricular costs in those programs resulting from updated accreditation requirements:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program fees increase of $1,500 per semester (net of the retirement of an existing fee) for students first enrolled in the program in Fall 2022 or after.
- Doctor of Pharmacy program fees increase of $488 per semester (net of the retirement of an existing fee) for students first enrolled in the program in Fall 2022 or after.
- New fee of $750 per semester for master’s degree program in Speech-Language Pathology for students first enrolled in the program in Fall 2022 or after.
- New fee of $1,500 per semester for master’s degree in Athletic Training program.
Professional Flight program fees are updated every biennium to offset increased costs associated with aviation operations. Fees will increase 16% on average for 2021-22 – impacting less than 1% of undergraduate students – and 3% on average in 2022-23. The total cost of the Professional Flight program is expected to be flat compared with 2020-21 due to a change in curriculum.
Tuition and fees at Purdue University Northwest and Purdue University Fort Wayne will follow the Indiana Commission for Higher Education’s recommended increase of up to 1.45% each year of the biennium. The increases will be used to fund operating budgets, including faculty and staff salaries and benefits, scholarships, supplies, services, and repair and rehabilitation. Purdue Northwest will introduce an additional tuition charge for international students of $105 per semester, equal to the amount charged on the West Lafayette campus.
The university’s all-funds operating budget for fiscal year 2022 supports educational, operating and strategic investment expenditures. Trustees endorsed the following total operating expenditures for fiscal year 2022:
- At the West Lafayette campus: $2.206 billion.
- At Purdue Northwest: $157 million.
- At Purdue Fort Wayne: $154 million.
Included in the West Lafayette expenditures is $81 million in strategic investments targeted to three key areas:
Revenues are budgeted at $2.591 billion and are expected to exceed expenditures by $74 million.
