Phillip A. “Tater” Tatom, 70, of Bedford, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at his residence.
Born in Bedford on Sept. 23, 1950, he was the son of Henry and Jean (Sanders) Tatom. Phillip graduated from Bedford High School, class of 1969, and was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, retiring from the Army in 1971. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Gillen Post #33 of Bedford, Boys Club Board of Directors, and Vietnam Veterans of Lawrence County.
He was a former president of Scenic Hills Camp and a volunteer at Parkview School for over 20 years.
Surviving to cherish Phillip’s memory are two brothers, David Tatom of Bloomington and Henry (Barbara) Tatom of Bedford; one sister, Connie (Dennis) Bergman of Bedford; two stepsisters, Patricia (Gary) Bolton of Georgia and Marsha King of Bedford; two stepbrothers, David Cogan of Bedford and Tom (Lynne) Colgan of England; one stepdaughter, Angel Holmes of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Phillip was preceded in death by his mother; father; and stepmother, Marjorie Tatom.
Services for Phillip will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Bedford with Pastor Jeff Hudelson officiating. Military rites will be accorded graveside by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33 of Bedford. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation for Phillip will be Friday, July 16th, from 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Church, 2394 Mt. Pleasant Road, Bedford.
