Zety “Mae” Myers

Zety “Mae” Myers, Bedford, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021.

Mae was born on March 5, 1931, in Craighead County, Arkansas to Ashley Earl and Viola Hartsell Cullen. She was a proud military wife of almost 30 years while nurturing her family in her early years. Mae’s courage shined brightest when she herded her young family to Japan, France, Germany, and many military bases by her husband’s side. Mae was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church. She believed in the value of hard work and had been a waitress and a volunteer for Dunn Hospital Pink Ladies for many years. She was an avid bowler and Euchre player. Above all, she was strongly devoted to her family and church. Mae gave her all to everything she did and always had a smile and kind words for everyone.

Survivors include a son, Richard “Gene” (Rhonda) Myers of Kentucky, Cynthia (Jack) Pennington of Bedford, and Dena (Charlie) Payne of North Carolina. Grandchildren, Seth Myers of Kentucky, Michael (Sandy) Pennington of Tennessee, Diana (Joey) Stewart of Bedford, great-grandchildren Alissa Myers of Florida, Matthew Myers of Kentucky, Micayla (Zach) Swazay of North Carolina, Ethan Pennington of Tennessee, and Katie and Evan Stewart of Bedford and sister-in-law, Ann Speakman of Linton.

In addition to her parents Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wade Myers, siblings Ruffie Cullen, Vernia Cunningham, Franklin Cullen, Pauline Byers, Ella Fay Trusty, and Hazel Cullen. She was also preceded in death by companion Louis Watson of Oolitic.

Friends and family may gather for visitation Tuesday, August 31 st from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Day and Carter
Mortuary and again one hour prior to services. Pastor David Ferry will officiate the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mae’s memory to Englewood Baptist Church or to Green Hill Cemetery Association.
