Jackson Eugene “Jackie” Charles, 85, of Avoca, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born December 21, 1935, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Ernest Emery and Marguerite (Link) Charles. He married Virginia Brock on January 24, 1965, and she survives. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local #20 and
worked at Bright’s Sheet Metal. He attended Gullett’s Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, of Avoca; a daughter, Kim Thompson, and husband, Matt, of Springville; three grandchildren, Brooke Ritz and husband, Brandon, of Brownstown, Taylor Perry, and husband, Jacob, of Leesville,
and Garrett Thompson, of Springville; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Sawyer, Knox, Tripp, and McCoy; two sisters, Wanda Weilbaker and Gloria “Chink” Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Charles, and a sister, Betty Spires.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Brian Stoll officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery in Silverville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
