Gary L. “GL” Lyons, 71, of Springville, passed away on September 16, 2021, at 2:05 p.m. at IU Health in Bedford.
Born November 17, 1949, the son of John E. and Jane E. (Burkhart) Lyons. He married Nancy Jane (Janie) Hawkins on June 1, 1974, and she survives.
He retired from General Motors Powertrain after 30 years as a machine repairman. He was a 1968 graduate of Bedford High School, attended Indiana State University where he studied music as a Trumpet Major. He was a member of the Indiana National Guard and a member of the UAW Local #440. Gary was an avid collector of vintage Mopar vehicles buying, selling, and restoring them for many years. He was known by many for his paint work.
Other survivors include sons, Mike (Jennifer) of Clayton, George (Carrie) of Indianapolis, Grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Andrew, Hayden, Jason, Brody, Taylor, and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn, his furry companion Homer who was with from 6 weeks old has gone over the Rainbow Bridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. with Jerry Wheeler officiating, entombment will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 21, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, the family asks in honor of Gary’s love of cars, that all hot rods and classic cars be driven to the services.
