MARION – Indiana Wesleyan University’s residential campus in Marion, IN is excited to introduce the university’s new distinctive and values. Created by a team of students, faculty, and staff from across campus, The Wildcat Way was born from a desire to communicate what is at the heart of all that IWU does, and seeks to encompass the ways in which the community is unique.
“The students, faculty, and staff at IWU have always felt that there is something unique about our community, and we hear that from our campus guests and newcomers, as well,” said Dr. Rod Reed, chancellor of IWU-Marion. “We wanted to explore that uniqueness to be able to explain it, and to set it as an expectation for the way we live and study together.”
The Wildcat Way communicates five primary values that characterize the expectations IWU-Marion has for personal and community life on campus.
- Kindness – We value loving others through generosity, compassion and respect.
- Humility – We value putting others first and having the attitude of Christ.
- Belonging – We value community that honors our God-given differences.
- Integrity – We value being consistently ethical, honest and trustworthy.
- Courage – We value acting on conviction, even in the face of fear.
Additionally, The Wildcat Way highlights IWU-Marion’s distinctive: “We are a disciple-making culture committed to influencing each other to become more like Jesus in every area of life.”
The Wildcat Way simply communicates what is already true of campus and repackages it into an easily digestible format, with the confidence that it will continue to shape and encourage the IWU-Marion community.
“We believe that having Jesus at the center of our campus should affect all we are and pursue,” said Reed. “We believe every member of our community helps create the culture we believe God calls us to create. Because we believe this culture is transformational in the lives of students, we want people to buy in and help us pursue this distinctive and these values in all we do.”
