Volney E. Olson, Sr., a retired businessman, and lifelong Bedford native died Saturday morning. He was 86.
Olson worked with his father, a brother, and sister to establish the N.R. Olson Agency, a local real estate and insurance firm. After retirement he continued in the real estate field, performing property appraisals for banks and mortgage companies.
An avid I.U. and St. Louis Cardinal fan, golfer, and fisherman, Olson spent time at Otis Park Golf Course and fishing in lakes and streams throughout Indiana and Canada. The youngest of three siblings, Olson was born to Norman R. Olson, Sr., and Myrtle G. Olson in April of 1935.
His brother, Mr. Norman R. Olson, Jr., and two sisters, Mrs. Avanell Mitchell of Bedford, and Mrs. Gaynel Meglemre of Lenexa, Kansas preceded him in death.
Olson is survived by his wife, Zenobia R. Olson, two sons, Volney E. Olson, Jr., and Vance Olson, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 1st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter
Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday. A private burial will follow.
