BEDFORD – Floyd Central withstood Bedford North Lawrence’s second-half aggressiveness and some miserable rainy weather to conquer the Stars 2-0 in the regular-season conclusion during boys high school soccer action on Saturday.
The Highlanders (11-5 overall, 5-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) took control with a first-half goal from Cole Jones at the 17:25 mark. Floyd added a late insurance score with Braden Hayes kicking in a deflection with six minutes left.
“We preached about having better effort, being ready to go,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “We needed some more aggressiveness, and we really did that. For a stint, we dominated possession and had them on their heels. Floyd is a tough team, and this wasn’t the result we wanted, but I was happy with the effort.”
The Stars (6-6-2, 1-5-0 in the league) will now focus on the postseason.
“I think we’re in good shape for the sectional,” Jackson said. “We’re in a good spot. If we show up and play well, we should win.”
BNL will face Northview (3-7) in the first round of the Class 3A sectional at Terre Haute North on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
