James D. “Jim” Ray age 89 of Bedford passed away on Friday December 3, 2021 at 1:38am at IU Health in Bedford. He was born in Bloomington on October 16, 1932 to Clifford and Ruby (Hendricks) Ray. He married Shirley Sowders in 1987 and she survives.
Jim was a retired clerk with Kroger Grocery Company in Bedford and Bloomington, he was an US Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ray of Bedford, two daughters, Joanie (Chuck) Bowers of Michigan and Judy Ray of Michigan, four step-children, Sherri (Rick) Hoggatt of Bedford, Tina Dixon of Bedford, Suzanne Purdy of Bedford and Robert Purdy, Jr. of Bedford, three brothers, Bill Ray of Texas, Ronnie (Lorraine) Ray of Florida and David (Gayle) Ray of Bloomington, nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gary Ray, one daughter, Linda Worm, one sister, Phyllis Bradley, and four brothers, Clifford Ray, Jr., Tommy Ray, Malvin Ray and Larry Ray.
Cremation was chosen, Cresthaven Funeral home is entrusted with his care.
