OOLITIC – The Oolitic Kiwanis service club held their first Fish Fry of 2022 Saturday, and is hoping to start the new year off on the right note, by selling food for a good cause.
Starting the Fish Fry in 1984, the Oolitic Kiwanis have served the community directly and indirectly by providing anonymous payments for struggling community members and donating the money earned to organizations to better help communities across America.
“We are a non-profit organization and our goal is to help the community as much as we can, and in all aspects that we can,” said Glenn Gross, member of the Oolitic Kiwanis club. “We donate to Riley Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House, as well as locally with helping to anonymously pay bills for members of the community who are in dire need.”
Gross said that the Kiwanis do so much more than just serving food at reasonable prices to those who come out to their Fish Fry.
“There are a lot of things that we do that members of the community don’t even know about because we don’t attach our names to these services,” said Gross. “We host our Fish Fry on the first Saturday of every month, with the proceeds going towards helping these families as well as providing other services like scholarship opportunities for high school students in the area. Serving the community to our fullest capability is what this club is all about.”
The next Oolitic Kiwanis Fish Fry will be February 5th from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. located at 222 Hoosier Avenue in Oolitic.
The club is always looking for volunteers to come out and help throughout the year. There isn’t a lot of commitment to volunteering as the group only holds two meetings per month as well as the monthly Fish Fry.
