NORTH VERNON – Bedford North Lawrence’s Emma Gabhart won two races in the Hoosier Hills Conference meet on Saturday.
Gabhart, the top seed in her races, touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.22, then splashed home in 1:09.75 to win the 100 breaststroke as she won those events for the second straight season.
BNL, with only a handful of competitors, finished seventh in the team standings with 82 points. Floyd Central won the league title with 344.5.
“It’s a challenging year for this tough group of girls,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “Frankly, I have to wonder where all the lady swimmers are. There is simply no way a BNL swim team should ever finish last in the conference.
“We need some girls to get out for this team and represent the community. It simply can’t all fall on the shoulders of this great, but small, group of girls. There have to be more out there that want to be the best at something and are willing to put in the work and make the commitment. I am very proud of these ladies and what they have accomplished so far.”
Columbus East’s Elizabeth Proffitt was also a double winner in the 200 free (2:00.94) and 100 butterfly (1:01.11). Floyd’s Savanna Liddle won the 50 free (25.27) and 100 free (55.60).
The Stars will visit Seymour on Tuesday.
