BEDFORD – The Bedford City Council held a regular meeting Tuesday night to discuss the update to the StoneGate Arts & Education center budget along with a plan commission resignation.
Executive Director Linda Henderson reviewed the rental income of the building, comparing the increase in 2021 to $14,110 to the 2020 income of only $1,950 (due to COVID-19 this affected the rental opportunities).
She shared a goal to increase the rental income to $25,000, a mark she feels is attainable by expanding their Academic partners. Currently, Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University use the building for evening classes.
They will also include a partnership with Ivey Tech and Vincennes to host a kids camp, in coordination with the Bedford Library. This would take place in the summer near the Limestone Heritage Festival to draw more traffic to the area.
StoneGate also hopes to include joint certificates through each of the schools for those who are looking for a closer location in order to attain these certificates.
Councilman Larry Hardman praised Henderson for the impressive increase of rental income, as well as her goals for the building in attaining the $25,000 income level.
The council then accepted the resignation of Adam Chastain from the Bedford Plan Commission, which took effect on January 12, 2022. With this resignation the council then approved the appointment of Richard Burton to the Plan Commission.
Lastly, Councilman Brad Bough wanted to thank the street department for their work on clearing snow and ice from the roadways, to keep community members safe as they travel.
