Dale Edson Abel, 85, of Loogootee, passed away on January 19, 2022, at Daviess Community Hospital.
He was born September 13, 1936, in Shoals to Ernest and Direthia (Wininger) Abel. He married Darcus Howell on February 18, 1967, and she survives. Dale was a graduate of Shoals High School Class of 1956, was owner and operator of Abel’s Garage beginning in 1982, drove school bus for Loogootee Community Schools for thirty-seven years, was a lifelong mechanic, and Was a Martin County Commissioner for twelve years. He previously attended Waggoner Chapel Church. Dale was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed playing cards, and loved talking about Ford automobiles.
Survivors include his wife, Darcus; children Eric Abel, David Abel, and Rochelle Dawn; grandchildren Kayla, Danielle, and Olivia Abel, Jennifer Holland and Dalton Abel; two great-grandchildren; and siblings Darrell Abel, Harold Abel, and Shirley Wraley; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents; one son Randy Abel; and two brothers, Roy Abel and Donnie Abel.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pastor Ed Frost will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
