BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Sunday after Bedford Police officers were called to the 2410 block of K Street about a man involved in a verbal argument with his 71-year-old mother.
When police arrived at 5:23 p.m. they were told 34-year-old Jeffrey Novak had fled out the back door of the home.
The woman told police she was arguing with her son because he was intoxicated.
She told police Novak’s sister was willing to take him to Meadows in Bloomington for treatment. Novak had allegedly got into his sister’s vehicle and she was going to take him for treatment.
At 6 p.m. Bedford Police officers were called to John Williams Boulevard after a report Novak had jumped from a moving vehicle and was lying in the median near Constitution Avenue.
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate Novak.
At 6:45 p.m. officers responded to Walmart after a report of a male trying to solicit rides from customers. Store security told Novak to leave the store and stop bothering customers.
Police then received a 911 call from the Walmart parking lot. A woman who was in her vehicle reported a man with a Swiss Army knife or a screwdriver was tapping on her window and trying to get into her car. The woman started her vehicle, left the parking lot, and called the police.
Officers located Novak inside the store and he was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
The only item in Novak’s possession was a red vape.
Novak was transported to IU Health Hospital for a medical evaluation and then was transported to jail.
