STATEHOUSE – On Tuesday Lawrence County 4-H Youth in 7th-12th grade learned about their state government through a day full of civic engagement and leadership.

“These participants joined 170 youth from across the State of Indiana for the first Indiana 4-H Day at the State House. Their experience began with an overnight stay where they connected with other 4-H members and talked about meeting legislators,” said Extension Educator for 4-H and Youth Development County Extension Director Lesley Lodmell “Participants toured the statehouse, meet representatives, and had the opportunity to serve as student pages. They also spoke with Governor Eric Holcomb.”

Lawrence County participants included
- Rylan Davis – Dairy Club and Junior Leaders, Grade 7
- Jadelynn Lyons – Dairy Club, Grade 8
- Isabelle Barker – Rabbit Club, Goat Club, Poultry Club, and Junior Leaders, Grade 7
- Jacob Burrus – Junior Leaders, Grade 8
- Heaven Cooper – Rabbit Club, Poultry Club, Grade 9
- Bryleigh Littrell – Rabbit Club, Poultry Club, Grade 7
- Eleanor (Nora) Howat – Junior Leaders, Indiana 4-H Ambassador, Grade 11
Orange County participants included:
- McKenzie Radcliff, Lucky Clovers Club, Grade 8

These participants began their experience with an overnight stay at the State Fair Grounds in the 4H dorms where they connected with other 4-H members from around the state and talked about meeting legislators.

For their day at the State House, participants:
- toured the building dripping in history,
- learned about the legislative processes,
- watched the session in the House of Representatives,
- observed the Senate debating legislation,
- heard remarks and had Q&A sessions with multiple senators, representatives, and the Lieutenant Governor,
- experienced public transportation and additional monuments in Indianapolis,
- and met and exercised their social skills with youth from across Indiana.
The House and Senate both passed resolutions establishing 4-H Day at the State House.
