Donald E. Blackburn, 85, of Bedford passed away on February 4, 2022, at 9:52 a.m. at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born on January 19, 1937, in Bedford to Cyrus Vern Blackburn and Mabel D. (Fortner) Blackburn. Donald married Rita Mood on June 29, 1958, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bedford and she survives. Donald was a retired Industrial Arts teacher having taught at Orleans, Fayetteville, Oolitic, and BNL Schools, he was also a dairy farmer. He was the co-owner of the Dairy Barn in Bedford and Blackburn’s Victorian House of Brides in Bedford. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford. Donald enjoyed spending time in Florida for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Blackburn of Bedford, two sons, Donald (Deanne) Blackburn II of Bedford and Darak (Kathy) Blackburn of Bedford, one brother, Russell (Marilyn) Blackburn of Bedford, five grandchildren, Jenna (Alex) Frist of Zionsville, Lauren (David) Lewis of Bedford, Chase (Brooke) Blackburn of Bedford, Chandler (Emily) Blackburn of Bedford, and Camryn (Isaac) Fender of Bedford, four great-grandchildren, Maverick and Dexter Lewis of Bedford, and Whitaker and Estee’ Frist of Zionsville.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Doris Fountain and Ruth Emmert.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home, with Rev. Jason Filler, officiating, entombment will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.
