INDIANA – As the countdown to spring continues, our crews have been working hard this winter to keep us moving toward the I-69 Finish Line.
While winter weather slows some construction, demolition, bridgework, and small concrete pours have continued as weather allows. Contractors build their construction schedules around winter weather and I-69 Finish Line remains on track to open to traffic at the end of 2024.
Seventeen miles of new highway opened to traffic in Morgan County at the end of 2021, but work is not complete. Temperature-sensitive work will resume in the area this spring including the final layer of asphalt pavement, permanent striping, and the painting of noise barriers and retaining walls.

Crews expect to close the left, inside lanes of I-69 early this week to remove a paved crossover and regrade the area south of Martinsville near Indian Creek.
Expect to see crews pouring concrete from southbound S.R. 37 on Tuesday and Wednesday for the Myra Lane overpass.
Southbound S.R. 37 is expected to open to two lanes in the coming weeks between Henderson Ford Road and Martinsville. The previous crossover is being regraded and the railing installed. The speed limit remains 45 mph.
Henderson Ford Road traffic should stay alert for crews performing drainage work near the roundabout and crews are also installing a Morgan County monument in the I-69 interchange. Expect short delays for traffic flaggers.
The closure of the Madison Avenue bridge over I-465 is not expected to happen until the end of February. The three-month closure will allow for the replacement of the bridge. The detour will be Thompson Road, Keystone Avenue, and Hanna Avenue.
Preparations for Madison Avenue bridgework and ongoing demolition of the Mooresville Road Bypass overpass will require I-465 lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The State Road 67/Kentucky Avenue and U.S. 31/East Street on-ramps to I-465 eastbound will be closed between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. for demolition of the nearby bridges.
The Mooresville Road Bypass bridge detour follows Mann Road, Thompson Road, and High School Road.
Expect utility work to impact traffic starting this week on Belmont Avenue east of S.R. 37, near Aspen Lakes Apartments, and in the coming weeks on Epler Avenue west of S.R. 37.
Short S.R. 37 traffic stoppages are scheduled this morning to remove overhead electric lines near Smith Valley Road.
Stay alert for trucks entering and exiting S.R. 144 for earthwork west of S.R. 37. Crews are building up the area for the future bridge over I-69.
Watch for changing traffic patterns at the Huggin Hollow Road entrances to the BP and Circle K gas stations. After the driveways are completed, traffic will be shifted to the realigned Huggin Hollow Road. That’s expected to happen in late February or early March, and the existing intersection will close permanently.
The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
