BLOOMINGTON – A site-based Assessment Team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), will conduct a virtual assessment of the Bloomington Police Department on March 7 and March 8, 2022, to examine policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
Verification by the Team that the Bloomington Police Department meets the Commission’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.
The Bloomington Police Department was initially awarded CALEA accreditation in 2018 and hosts the Assessment Team as part of the four-year reaccreditation cycle.
During each four-year period, the agency must submit annual reports and participate in annual remote web-based assessments attesting continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer their comments addressing the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards in one of three ways:
- Attend a virtual information session on March 8 at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom or by telephone at (312) 626 6799 with Meeting ID 860 6861 1107 and Pass Code 111078
- Speak to CALEA assessors by telephone at (812) 322-4570 on March 7 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Submit written comments by mail to: The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA, 20155, or by email to calea@calea.org.
Comments made during a public information session or by telephone are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Bloomington Police Department by contacting Brittany Murphy at 812-322-9538.
