MITCHELL – Firefighters from Marion Township, Mitchell, and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments battled a house fire at 175 Carpenter Drive Wednesday afternoon.
Just after 12 p.m. firefighters were alerted to the fire. The caller reported smoke in a residence near the washer and dryer area of the home.
According to Marion Township VFD Chief Paul Gillespie, the residence was full of smoke and smoke was coming from the backside of the home.
“Firefighters laid out one attack line to the backside of the home for fire suppression found smoke and fire showing from the electrical box on the backside of the residence,” said Chief Gillespie. “Another attack line was laid into the front door to the bedroom where the fire was confined to the closet, crews were able to extinguish the fire inside with a water fire extinguisher. “
Duke energy arrived on the scene and removed the electrical box from the residence. Once electricity was disconnected crews were able to pull ceilings and insulation to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
Chief Gillespie said the cause of the fire remains under investigation, however, the fire appeared to have started in the electrical box and spread into the wall of the residence.
Crews remained on scene until 1:36 p.m. performing salvage and overhaul to the residence.
